All the sh*t of yours around my house

Although, motivated forgetting is said to enhance the preclusion process to prevent unpleasant memories, the stuff that she didn’t take with her are the reason why I still feel that she's always beside me everywhere I go.

It happened so quickly, we got into an argument that the atmosphere feels uncomfortable. They said that using emotion while deciding obstructs the ability to decide something and it will lead to an unpleasant conclusion.

Inspiration

The title "All the sh*t of yours around my house” was originally inspired from the song lyrics “Shampoo Bottles” by Peachpit. ““Shampoo Bottles” is a song about the stuff my ex-girlfriend left at my apartment after we broke up and how even after I’d used up all the soap in the bottle and the deodorant in the stick, I still didn’t throw them out for a while,” said the frontman of the band Niel Smith in the press release (Rose, 2020). The song itself exhibits the feeling of a broken heart, injected with some sitcom that the listener will enjoy. However, in this project, I wanted to further display the aftermath of a relationship of a couple that broke up by using everyday-life objects as a medium to express the story before the end of the relationship.

Abstract

The project showcases pictures from a first-person point of view(the boyfriend) where he is doing his normal morning routine before he leaves the house. In each picture, you will see objects that belong to his girlfriend disguising among his other items, something that displays her presence. Due to the ordinariness of the photo shoot, I was afraid that it won’t have much impact like my last project(where I painted graffiti which I think is more influential). Below, I will be explaining to you my ideas about objects that when it belongs to someone special to you, the object becomes a part of that person.

She pinks me not

Photographs

This series of photographs will recall remnants of  presence through her objects or what we call “memento” around the house. Also, the picture you are seeing will depict how an ordinary object connects to its owner and how it can become so powerful that it can create a story. The object in each photograph portrays ordinaryness using simple objects like toothbrushes but also showcases how a life of a couple living together would look like where each object has an ability to create a story that links to the memory of what the couple have done together from waking up, showering, eating to going to places together.

Memento

When we talk about memories that belong to our loved ones, when they leave, either death or apart, they usually leave something behind for us to remember. Object is also another thing that usually becomes the person that when one looks at the object. One sees an image or stories of what the person was doing with the object. Usually, objects hold nostalgic meaning or power to recall moments when they are involved in special occasions in our lives. However, in this project, although each object is categorised as a routine, day-to-day objects that are used in everyday life, each and every object carries a powerful remembrance.

Conclusion

To conclude this project, this project is singularly based on a song by Peach Pit called “Shampoo Bottles”. The song “Shampoo Bottles”, illustrates the aftermath of relationships using ordinary objects to give the audience an idea of the life when they were together. This project tries to use the method of objects that recalls the reminiscent of the activities that a couple would do together by taking photos of objects that are used as a routine that share valuable memories together. The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you the greatest memories becomes a memory.
